Job Summary:
The Behavior Support Specialist is responsible for providing specialized support to students with behavioral challenges in a special education setting. This role entails implementing behavior management strategies, conducting assessments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized behavior support plans. The Behavior Support Specialist will actively promote positive behavior interventions, foster a safe and inclusive learning environment, and facilitate social-emotional growth for students.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Conduct functional behavior assessments (FBA) and develop behavior intervention plans (BIP) based on assessment results.

3. Provide direct support to students, including implementing behavior interventions and crisis management techniques.
4. Monitor and track progress of students' behavior goals, adjusting strategies as needed.
5. Develop and deliver professional development sessions to teachers and support staff on behavior management techniques and strategies.
6. Maintain accurate and confidential records of student behavior data, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and policies.
7. Collaborate with the special education team to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that address behavior-related goals and objectives.
8. Utilize evidence-based practices to support the social-emotional growth and development of students with behavioral challenges.
9. Act as a resource for teachers and support staff, providing guidance and support in managing challenging behaviors.
10. Stay up-to-date with current research, trends, and best practices in behavior management and special education.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Psychology, or a related field.
2. Valid state certification in Special Education is required.
3. Proven experience working with students with behavioral challenges in a special education or inclusive setting.
4. Strong knowledge of behavior management techniques, positive behavior interventions, and crisis management strategies.
5. Familiarity with conducting functional behavior assessments (FBA) and developing behavior intervention plans (BIP).
6. Excellent communication and collaboration skills to effectively work with students, parents/guardians, teachers, and support staff.
